There are three main categories of Mohawk Products, some with overlapping items. The three main categories are: (1) Wood finish touch-up, (2) Wood Finishing, and (3) Leather Finish Repair and care. Each of these three categories have a variety of items that overlap. You could look at wood touch-up as a sub category of wood finishing, but there are so many technicians in the world who specialize in spot repair and touch up that I believe it deserves the status of main category.

Mohawk wood touch up line is extensive. I would like to spend a few minutes talking about how there is no substitute for some of Mohawk's fine wood touch-up tools and supplies. I can't imagine how I could have gotten bye all these years without Mohawk wood touch-up colors and supplies.

Period Upholstery and Drapery Fabrics

Last Updated on Thursday, 20 November 2008 05:01 Thursday, 06 November 2008 10:35

What, One may ask, are Period fabrics? Here at Brandt and Whitney we are more than able to answer this questions as well as provide an example of this type of fabric out of our discount decorator fabrics.

Other places that provide fabric in the Denver Colorado area like Joann's, Hancock fabrics and even Denver fabrics may have a small bit of trouble answering this question.

These fabrics are known for their attachment to the past. They are fabrics that are manufactured with the same techniques and fibers as their forefathers. It will be no surprise to any of our satisfied  customers that we are able to supply these fabric needs at Brandt and Whitney

Why would any one in their right mind want one of these fabrics? This is not an unusual question. These fabrics at first give the impression of being only for use in museums and not in the homes of the ordinary interior design client. But in the hands of an experienced interior Designer these fabrics, in all of their sublime glory can be introduce into the most modern of settings. And supply that pop that allows even the most staid client to have an expression of their own within the design.

Take for instance a silk Brocade. The definition of this type of fabric is that is was originally silk and was generally reputed to be developed to a high state of perfection on the 16th and 17th centuries in france, Italy, and Spain. In china the weaving of silk, which dates from the Chang dynasty , developed into complex patterns including Moire, damask and brocade. The fabric called brocade is characterized by a compact warp-effect background with one or more fillings in the construction to make the motif or figure. The filling threads, often of gold or silver in the original fabrics of this name, float in embossed or embroidered effects in the figures on the fabric. These motifs may be of flowers, foliage, scrollwork, pastoral scenes, or other designs. Its uses include curtaining, hangings, pillows heavy drapery and even in bed linens and in clothing as well. These same techniques are used in the manufacture of brocades made from cotton and even synthetic fibers.

With this definition it is easy to see that this was indeed the fabric of Kings and Queens and was usually only reachable to them. However, with the introduction of synthetic fibers and the use of cottons in the manufacturing process the fabric is now very available to all whom wish to have it.

This brings us back to the use of the fabric. The definition above makes it seem that this would never be a wise choice for any customer especially if the client has a family. The two kids the dog and the continuous use of the furniture in this environment make the use of a fabric like this unthinkable. But when we look at this fabric with the introduction of cottons and acrylics it then becomes useful.

Remember when we mentioned before that the use of these fabrics can allow even the most unadventurous client to place a bit of their personality into the interior and now it is easy to see that this is not only practical but easy as well.

Even though you are the working mom with 2.3 kids and a dog, as well as a husband the last thing that any one of you wants to think about is the care of the fabrics that you put into your home.

Here is where Brandt and Whitney can help. We have more than 1,000 designer fabrics in stock and ready for use on your most inventive projects. We have a tremendous inventory of just the designer fabrics and designer upholstery fabrics that a client may be in need of.

These fabrics can be used for a wide number of projects and find their way into any number of rooms from the living room to the bedroom to the bath and beyond. it is not unheard of to make these fabrics the focal point of any space. Take the example of the great room for instance. In most of the American homes this room has become the formal / informal space. during the week it is a space to be used in the most relaxing manner possible but when Friday rolls around this space taken on a totally different mood. The school books and the tennis equipment is put away and the room must transform it's self from the family room to the living room. This is where these upholstery and drapery fabrics can help. These fabrics allow the space to be a chameleon. During the week the space is an inviting area for the family to be comfortable in and to allow for a space that is to be used without a great deal of care. On those evenings when a more formal space is needed turning the cushions, turning down the lights and lighting the candles makes the brocades and silks that you have chosen for your space shine and give a formal feeling to the space. The designer fabrics that you choose for your home will make it more appealing and more inviting no matter what the occasion is, a soccer awards dinner or a dinner for the boss the use of these fabrics can make a space not only a space but a wonderful space. Come see Brandt and Whitney for all of your designer upholstery, bedding, and fabric needs.

Down and Down products

Last Updated on Tuesday, 11 November 2008 08:20 Monday, 03 November 2008 12:20

Did you know that Brandt and Whitney not only carries an unprecedented and weighty selection of fine Designer Upholstery fabrics but, through one of the select vendors in the Denver Metro area we also have an unparalleled selection of down and down products? American Down and Feather has become one of the premier suppliers of down and down products in the Rocky Mountain Region.

Some of the interesting things about down and its uses are that unlike other natural products down has a much longer life span than most other natural filling products. It is so durable and can be sat on, slept on and under and will bounce back year after year even after years of prolonged use. So, one may well ask, what is it that allows down to have these properties. It's the down fiber itself! This is a fiber that consists of a small hallow core. The fibers that attach themselves to this inner core are what give the down fiber what is known as loft. The more loft there is the more durable and comfortable the fiber becomes. Not only does it have more durability but it makes the item filled with the fiber more comfortable.

In the case of a seating piece, a sofa, chair or bench, a seat filled with a premium down product will have a much more supportive seat to it then one filled with a less desirable product. One more wonderful thing about down is that it can be paired with a number of other man made or synthetic fibers to enhance the seating or the already fantastic durability that down naturally has.

There are some customers whom ask" isn't a down seat a little difficult to take care of? "Doesn't it require a great deal of fluffing and maintenance?" "I really just don't have time for all that fussing with my furniture like that."

While it is true that a sofa cushion with a 100% down fill is not going to have the tailored look that a fiber or inner spring seat will. The trade off is the comfort and the traditional look that can only be given by down.

If, however, the best solution to your upholstery needs is to have a mixture of elements in a seat then down can also be used for this.

With the advent of the modern sofa seating system and the man-made fibers, down became a luxury product. Only requested when the need for a high end product was needed. It goes without saying that if these items are blended the result is nothing short of fantastic!

Take, for example, the inner core spring seat. Alone, this seating choice is wrapped with a dacron sheeting which is glued and then used to fill the upholstered case of the chosen upholstery fabric. When down is introduced into this system the same inner spring core is used however instead of the dacron wrap the spring unit is wrapped in an enclosure of down in a down proof ticking. This allows the same soft seat given by down and the firm and easier to keep seat of the non traditional upholstered piece. These two items work in tandem to insure that the seating piece is not only durable, easier to take care of and comfortable but that it possesses a traditional natural long wearing fiber.

Down is not only a fiber or material that can be used in the seating pieces in a clients home but one that must be seriously considered for use in the households bedding as well. The same durability factor applies in this area of the home as in the seating areas as well. The same comfort that must be evident up to now in this writing must also be evident in the bedroom as well.

The use of down products in the bedroom can be seen as far back as 56 BC in Rome. The application of this fiber is not just a point of luxury but also one of durability.

Briwax

Last Updated on Monday, 10 November 2008 04:45 Monday, 03 November 2008 11:14

Since 1860 Cabinet makers and furniture craftsman alike have relied upon the fine products that have been created by Briwax. The need for these fine products came into being from the need of these craftsman and designers to have finishes that would protect the qualities of the finer woods and restore that almost new look to their creations.

It was Henry Flack, the creator of Briwax who formulated the product that is in wide use today. Mr. Flack formulated a blend of the finest bees wax and the waxy emollient from the Carnauba Palm from South America to create the formulation that we know of today as Briwax. These fine waxes are know for their protective qualities and for the restorative as well. Mr. Flack knew this and devoted much of his time to making sure that the formulation was one of the finest in the world.

Briwax can be used on almost all fine wood surfaces. This means furniture, flooring, finished and unfinished woods, and can be used to remove damage from water rings, scuffs and scratches as well as the finest antiques in the world.

Some other items that Briwax can be used on are Wood paneling, kitchen cabinets, and craft projects. Briwax can also be used on unfinished and untreated leathers, as well as wood doors and almost any fine piece of antique furniture.

Briwax comes available in clear and nine natural wood tones. These are Golden Oak, Dark Oak, Light Brown, Rustic Pine, Antique Mahogany, Teak, Tudor Brown, Dark Brown and Ebony. The stains in these certain Briwax products allow the craftsperson or even the homeowner to lighten or darken a finish in order to fill in and hide small surface scratches and chips in older furniture or priceless antiques.

Briwax is also formulated to allow dirt, oil and old wax to be dissolved and removed leaving behind a beautiful, lustrous durable had rubbed finish. Briwax also carries a product line of complete wood care agents that allow all including the most seasoned craftsman to protect, preserve, and rejuvenate any fine piece of wood anywhere in their home.

Silks

Last Updated on Thursday, 20 November 2008 04:57 Thursday, 30 October 2008 09:02

Did you know that Brandt and Whitney has a varied and wide array of silks and silk substitutes?  Unlike many of the less customer service orientated discount fabric suppliers such as JoAnns Fabrics, Denver Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics, Brandt and Whitney is able to provide our customers with a wider selection than any of the so called discount fabric suppliers can. We have in stock a full selection of beautiful, sophisticated, polished and period correct. On our racks are a number of fantastic colored silks that allow for a mind boggling number of design choices. The knowledgeable staff members are always willing to give the best advise that will allow the customer to make the most informed decision.

Brandt and Whitney is able to provide the wide selection that we do simply because we have the resources to do so. We use many of the finer suppliers such as Fabricut, Kravet and Robert Allen. These are but a few of the important manufactures that we carry at Brandt and Whitney

Silk oh, Silk. What a fabulous fabric it is! Beautiful, strong and versatile. This fabric is suitable for both the informal and the formal setting. The variety and types of weaves are endless, as are the multitudes of effects in weaving and types of silk cloth that can be created.

Silk is an ancient fabric. Developed first China it was used not only for clothing, but bedding and bedding accessories as well. The  tensile strength -- that is to say when the fabric is pulled in two different directions it is more likely to bounce back and regain its shape -- is higher than other natural fabrics. So silk is durable, fantastic, fabulous and above all available at Brandt and Whitney

It is important to note that fabric outlets like JoAnns, Denver Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics cannot compete with Brandt and Whitney when it comes to our selection. Because we have access to a great number of jobber sources we are able to bring the best fabrics to the public as possible.

Silk is a remarkable fabric in the manner that it can be dyed. Silk can be dyed in a wonderful, fantastic array of colors from the palest of yellows and the almost transparent creams to the most vibrant reds and the purples and the warmest of greens and pinks.  We have all of these colors in the finest array and if we do not have it we can get it from manufactureslike Kravet,  Kneedler Fauchere, Brunschwig and Fils, Designtex, Kimball, Distinctive Design Florals, Maharam, John Brooks, Robert Allen, Wesco Fabrics, Hoff Miller, Scalamandre, Moda Antiqua, Carter Didlake, F Schumacher, Greef,  and Waverly,  just to name a few.
